Barricade Newsletter - October 2017

A hello from the boss:

Hello Barricade Family

Hello Barricade Family,

As Dellamorte is suffering from man-flu, he asked me to write this months intro, which I am very happy to do.

As festival season ends, we are now in the season of new album releases and the subsequent winter tours, which I'm sure you'll see in this and upcoming Barricade Radio newsletters!

With the huge variety of music available on Barricade, everyone will find something to enjoy in our live shows and our archives!

Keep on, keeping on!

Nick Rayman

Tunes/Albums OF OCTOBER:

DJ AKA:

RadioKilaz - New Future (Tony Vibe remix)

Nick Rayman:

I'm cheating and having my album of the month the same as from September as its only recently arrived through the door.

The big album for me in October is the debut album from Too Many T's - South City.

Known for their high-energy live show which has seen them support De La Soul, Public Enemy and Big Daddy Kane. Too Many T’s present their debut LP ‘South City’, an album of consummate skill and emotional depth.

It’s one thing to make people think with a record. It’s another to make people laugh with one. But to do both, with the same body of work, is something truly special.

This album will dazzle you with the skill of T’s flows, astonish you with the width of their lyrics and get your booty shaking with the infectious future-bass production. Your brain will think it’s listening to classic, golden-era hip hop, but your arse will know it’s dancing to a formula that’s been updated.

I'm hoping to take the Funky Sensation night I do with Dellamorte & Denzileo to more venues around the country...we bring the funk to your party! Get in touch if you want us to play at a venue near you!

Juliet Harris:

The Nightingales - B-Side at best

Dellamorte:

Moon Boots - First Landing

Sarah Cooper:

Tune of the month: Tensnake - Hello?

A synth-based dreamscape from the Hamburg legend.

Paul Mansell:

No Tune of the month at the time of publishing

Matt Slammer:

No Tune of the month at the time of publishing.

DrewZilla:

Loadstar - One for you

A powerful bassdriven stomper, beautifully and dynamically produced. A track from their new album which is immense. A step ahead of the last album release and just goes to show these guys get better and better with age! A five star fine wine!

Urban Warfare Crew:

Stevie Hyper D - Junglist Soldier

This year, September 20th marks the 51st birthday of Stevie Hyper D, one of the greatest MCs to have ever held the mic. THTC are also releasing their new Junglist soldier tees in appreciation to his talents, and are available to order now.

Denzileo:

Album of the month:

The Souljazz Orchestra- Under Burning Skies

The Canadian soul/jazz/afrobeat group are back with a big album which came out in September. I delayed my departure to Equinox Festival so I could download it for my journey. Standout track on first listen was Is YeelYel, which also got dropped in my Equinox set. Another track which is sure to be blasted in future sets is LuFunki, an electro-influenced afrobeat treat.

Upcoming/Recommended gigs in OCTOBER:

The Barricade DJs are always on the lookout for gigs to play at. If you know of any venues that any of our DJs would suit, then get in touch!

If you're looking for some funk, soul, reggae, hip-hop, disco, afrobeat, then look no further than Funky Sensation (Nick Rayman, Dellamorte, Denzileo).
